Below are the formats used for the audio files on this site:

-- Ogg Vorbis (.ogg) --

Ogg Vorbis is an open source, patent free, audio format that has been in use for years. It is widely supported on multiple platforms. It is similar in size to mp3, but superior in quality for storing high fidelity music.

Anything at all semi-recent that I do is stored in this format.

Off the top of my head, here's where you can find a player if you don't have one:
--Windows--
Directshow filter (so windows media player can play): http://www.free-codecs.com/Codec_download.htm
List of other players: http://www.vorbis.com/setup_windows
--Linux--
Most players support it. For example, XMMS.

-- MPEG Layer 3 (.mp3) --

MP3 is a common but patented audio format, and inferior in quality to Ogg Vorbis. Only my older works are stored as mp3, as I didn't know of Ogg Vorbis at the time they were made.
